The wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, on Thursday said the Federal Government’s zero tolerance for maternal deaths in the country had paid off.
She said the welfare of women and children was being given priority attention by the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.
Mrs Buhari, who spoke in Lagos at the inauguration of the 149-bed Maternal and Child Centre in the Alimosho area, added that health care facility was being replicated across the country.
The wife of the President, who was represented by her Senior Special Assistant on Administration, Dr Hajo Sani, said there was a strategic partnership between the federal and Lagos State governments in the health sector.
She said, “In order to compliment what government is doing, I have decided to construct maternity centres across the country. The essence of this is to ensure that women receive attentions while they are pregnant and when they are delivered of their babies.â€
The Lagos State Governor Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said the state government would not pay lip service to quality health care delivery in the state.
He reiterated the commitment of his administration to work on the various indices aimed at taking people out of poverty.
Earlier, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, Adejoke Orelope- Adefulire, said the facility would help to reduce maternal and infant mortality rate in the Alimosho area.
